GG Speed Racer PKO Strategy
Speed Racer PKOs on GG spend the whole tournament in short-stack territory — which is exactly where bounty EV dominates every decision. Here's what to do about it.
Why Speed Racer is a bounty-EV format, not an ICM format
Speed Racer PKOs are 4-minute-level, 6-max hyper-turbo bounties on GG. The blind structure keeps effective stacks under 25bb for most of the tournament, and often under 12bb by the money. That means your equity swings almost entirely on preflop decisions — and every one of them is inflected by bounty EV.
The three adjustments that matter
- Cover / covered. If you cover a shove, your calling range widens dramatically — you're the only one who can win the villain's bounty. If you're covered, your shoving range tightens because callers get better odds.
- Bounty ratio. When the villain's bounty is 2×+ your own, marginal call-offs (A5s, TT, KJs, small pairs) that would be folds in a chip-EV tournament become clear calls.
- Field composition. Speed Racer pulls a wide skill spread. In lower buy-ins you can widen jam ranges (they call too tight); in higher ones tighten your open-jam and pick spots to overfold to 3-bets.
Common leaks in the ≤25bb zone
- Under-calling from the BB against covering shoves. When you cover the button and the SB shoves 10bb, you're calling wider than any chip-EV chart says — often as wide as any-two-broadway plus low pairs plus suited connectors.
- Over-jamming from the SB when you're covered. A short SB against a big BB is not the same jam range as a big SB against a short BB. Bounty EV punishes you both ways here.
- Ignoring the covering-stack correction late. At 6-handed with two shorts, the chip leader is playing a completely different game — most of the field never adjusts.
What to drill first
Open the ranges in Preflop Pro for 8bb, 10bb, and 12bb across BTN, SB, and BB, then flip on the bounty overlay and watch the call-off widen as the villain's bounty grows. Twenty minutes of that a day for a week rewires the intuitions faster than anything else — because these are the spots that come up over and over.
